Biodesulfurization of Consortia Immobilized on Oil Palm Frond Biochar in Biotrickling Filters under Anoxic Conditions

چکیده

Biodesulfurization using biotrickling filters (BTFs) under anoxic conditions is a cost-effective method for biogas clean-up. To improve the performance of BTFs, microbial consortia from anaerobic pond swine farm (SW), denitrification tuna factory (DN), and UASB concentrated latex industry (LW) were immobilized on BTFs. In this study, efficiency BTFs with reduction H2S gas combined nitrate contained in wastewater was investigated. The results showed that completely removed at inlet concentration 207.8–1476 ppmv circulation conditions. However, only DN-BTF achieved removal 95.2% an 2500 ppmv. An increase N/S ratio (0.356–2.07 mol/mol) improved SW-BTF, LW-BTF, but not BTF-C. Moreover, had highest rate (71.1%) 2.07 mol/mol. When oxygen supplied DO = 3.60 ± 0.41 mg/L, sulfate generated higher rate, nitrite production lower than DO~0. After community analysis, Proteobacteria main phyla involved biodesulfurization process.

Biogas biodesulfurization in an anoxic biotrickling filter packed with open-pore polyurethane foam.

Biogas biodesulfurization by an anoxic biotrickling filter packed with open pore polyurethane foam at the laboratory scale (packed volume 2.4L) has been studied. The biotrickling system was operated for 620 days with biogas supplied continuously and two nitrate feeding regimes were tested (manual and programmed). Biomass immobilization was carried out under the manual nitrate feeding regime and...

Influences of the Operating Variables of Acetosolv Pulping on Pulp Properties of Oil Palm Frond Fibres

The effect of acetosolv pulping variables viz. pulping time, temperature, catalyst (HCl) and acetic acid on oil palm frond fibres was investigated. The following conditions were found to be optimum to pulp frond fibres: 140 oC, 0.5% HCl, 75% acetic acid, and 1/10 solid/liquor ratio. Under these conditions we could obtain these properties: Kappa number 13-16, zero-span tensile breaking length – ...

Removal of odorant dimethyl disulfide under alkaline and neutral conditions in biotrickling filters.

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the performance of biotrickling filters (BTFs) for treating low concentrations of dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), using different bacterial consortia adapted to consume reduced sulfur compounds under alkaline (pH ≈ 10) or neutral (pH ≈ 7) conditions. Solubility experiments indicated that the partition of DMDS in neutral and alkaline mineral media was similar to ...

Modelling biotrickling filters to minimize elemental sulfur accumulation during biogas desulfurization under aerobic conditions

A mathematical dynamic model describing biological removal of high loads of H2S from biogas streams through a biotrickling filter (BTF) was developed, calibrated and validated to a range of specific experimental conditions of a lab-scale BTF. This model takes into account the main processes occurring in the three phases of the desulfurizing BTF (gas, liquid and biofilm phase) in a co-current co...

Utilization of Oil Palm Frond - Based Diets for Beef and Dairy Production in Malaysia

Oil palm fronds (OPF) are one of the main by-products of the oil palm industry in Malaysia. It contains about 38.5 % crude fibre with ME values of about 5.65 MJ/kg dry matter. OPF has great potential to be utilized as a roughage source or as a component in a complete feed for ruminant animals. This paper briefly reviews the availability of OPF in Malaysia and its importance in the local beef an...
